OK … so I was thinking that after all the posts I see on the web, I haven’t found a real up-to date list of things you need to start acquiring for life on the road. So I thought I would start one and hopefully people can add to the list with things I missed.
Laptop (Prefer MAC Book) this is not only to help but can be an income Generating tool. (see a list of ways to make money on the road here)
Good quality camera. Prefer one that you can record on. (also income generating)
Epirb (Very handy and IMO a must have) to see what these are click here
Pepper Spray (dont laugh you never know if a knock on the door is friendly)
I was looking for a fish tank on gumtree (an Aussie selling website) and as usual got distracted and moved onto looking at an old school bus.
Little did my other half know that the following day I had decided to pop down to the place where it was and take a quick look to satisfy my curiosity.
Yep I was right, an old bouncy noisy school bus that goes a maximum of 80 km an hour down hill was not my idea of fun, let alone what my other half would say if I put her through that again… to see our last bus and that story click here.
Well Bro we did it! We bought the bus and soon will be kiwis living in a tin. however not our first bus but this one is the biggest we have had, also the most luxurious… at least it sits on 110 km (I hope).
So onto the story thus far……..
Anyway back to it (again going of on random thoughts) while I was looking at the bus I mentioned a coach would be better. To my surprise I was in luck, down the back he had one that had “mechanical issues”… he meant the engine was stuffed! But he had purchased another Fuso Coach the same model to use all the parts off, including the engine. So after a little negotiation, he thru in all the other parts. Deal made…. Oh wait did I forget to mention, My other half still had no idea I was even here.
Finally getting it home
Ok now the most important issue how do I hide a big 40ft bus?
I didn’t think the “what this old thing“? theory would work. Guess I will be telling her the truth….
Honey It was a bargain and we needed it!
Although to my surprise her eyes rolled and the look of @#$# here we go again, followed by a laugh and a where do you think that is going to park?
But 3 days later and I was meeting the Heavy Haulage truck to pick it up.
No motor running = no air and deflated suspension, Due to the spot it was parked in we had to tow it out on the street to lift the suspension with an air hose, Good in theory, however someone forgot to watch the front of the bus coming down of the curb… There goes the whole font end. Bugger!!!
Now not only do we need to refit the engine but now need a new front bumper.
OK so we get it home and after a hairy no brakes coast into the driveway spot, there she sat…
